In August of this year I was made aware of an opportunity to serve children who have had a recent diagnosis of cancer. I can’t imagine how a parent would feel to hear this tragic news.
The lady who brought this opportunity to my attention had a daughter diagnosed with Leukemia three years ago. She went on to tell me that the Heller Center for Kids with Cancer was needing help with providing new patients with a bag of goodies. This bag of goodies could be used by these newly diagnosed children during their initial treatments.
So ACF took up the challenge and went out and bought enough supplies for 65 bags. Items included in the bag were everything from hygiene items, art supplies, card games, puzzles and other needed and fun items.
I then recruited 8 volunteers to join me at Word of Life Church in Rock Island, Illinois to help pack these bags. I also had a representative from the Heller Center speak to our group to explain the impact these bags on the children as well as the families.
ACF will always continue to look for ways to help needy children. One of our goals is to help people make mission a lifestyle.
