Maria’s Story: A New Beginning at Point of Hope

Mar 20, 2025

For 10-year-old Maria, life has changed a lot in the past year. She, her mother, and her younger sister recently moved back to Romania from England after her parents’ divorce. It was a difficult transition—adjusting to a new home, a new routine, and a future that felt uncertain. But in the midst of all the change, Maria found something steady, something safe. She found Point of Hope (POH).

Maria has only been attending POH for three months, but already, she feels at home. “Yes, I like it very much,” she says with a smile. Her cousin, who also attends POH, told her about thecenter, and Maria’s mother quickly saw what a blessing it could be for her daughters. Now, both Maria and her 6-year-old sister are part of the POH family.

What does Maria love most? “I like art, and I love the teachers. They are very kind.” She also loves music and is excited to be part of the Christmas program, where she will sing—a bright moment of joy during what has been a challenging season in her young life.

Despite the struggles her family has faced, Maria is full of hope. She attends church with her mother, and her faith is growing. She dreams of one day becoming a doctor because she cares deeply about people, especially children. And already, she knows that if she has children of her own, she will send them to POH. “It’s very good here,” she says simply. “I like my time here.”

Maria’s story is still unfolding, but one thing is clear—she is on a path toward a brighter future, and POH is a big part of that journey.

This is what your generosity makes possible. Because of faithful donors, children like Maria—who have faced hardship, transition, and uncertainty—find a place where they are loved, supported, and given the tools to succeed.

When you give to Point of Hope, you’re not just providing education and meals. You’re giving stability to children who need it most. You’re offering them a sense of belonging, a place where they feel safe, valued, and encouraged to dream.

Today, you have the opportunity to be part of Maria’s story. Will you help?

Your support can make a life-changing difference for children just like her. Whether through a one-time gift, a monthly sponsorship, or even joining a short-term mission team, you can be the reason a child finds hope in the midst of uncertainty.

Give today. Go. Be part of the story.

Here is Stefanie’s story, as I witnessed it. Two years ago, I ducked through a narrow doorway into a two-room home in the village of Ceuas, Romania. There was no plumbing inside—just a washbasin near the door and a small stove that worked hard to keep the chill away....
