As summer begins to wind down, families across the country are preparing for a new school year. For many parents, that season brings excitement — but it can also bring financial stress. Backpacks, shoes, socks, and school supplies add up quickly, especially for families already working hard to make ends meet.
That is why this year’s Back to School Bash events in Princeton, Illinois, and Cleveland, Tennessee, are so important — and why we believe God has opened a beautiful door for ministry through them.
On July 25, at the Second Story Teen Center in Princeton, Illinois Back to School Bash will serve children and families by distributing 720 backpacks, 300 pairs of shoes, and 1,000 pairs of socks. Just one week later, on August 1, the Cleveland, Tennessee Back to School Bash will continue that mission by giving away 1,200 pairs of shoes and 4,000 pairs of socks to students preparing for the school year ahead.
At first glance, these events are about meeting practical needs. A new backpack helps a child carry books and supplies with pride. A fresh pair of shoes helps them walk into the classroom comfortably and confidently. Clean socks may seem like a small thing, but they are an everyday essential that many families are truly grateful to receive.
But we believe these backpacks, shoes, and socks are more than gifts — they are open doors. Every item we place into the hands of a child becomes a tool to share the love of Jesus Christ with families in Princeton, Cleveland, and the surrounding communities. When we serve without strings attached, we reflect the heart of the Gospel: that God loved us first and gave freely, even when we could offer nothing in return.
Jesus often used simple, everyday moments — a shared meal, a cup of water, a healing touch — to reveal the heart of the Father. In the same spirit, a backpack becomes a bridge. A pair of shoes becomes a conversation. A moment of kindness becomes an opportunity for a family to hear that they are loved by God and welcomed into a community of faith.
Across both locations, thousands of items will be placed directly into the hands of families — not as a transaction, but as an expression of Christ’s love, dignity, and hope. Every volunteer, every prayer, and every donated dollar becomes part of something eternal.
We are deeply grateful for the churches, donors, volunteers, and community partners helping make these events possible. When God’s people come together, children are reminded that they are seen and valued. Parents are reminded that they are not alone. And communities encounter the living hope of the Gospel through practical, loving service.
As the Princeton event approaches on July 25 and the Cleveland event follows on August 1, we invite you to pray with us. Pray for every child who will receive a backpack, shoes, or socks. Pray for parents who will walk through our doors carrying burdens only Christ can lift. Pray that hearts would be opened and that seeds of faith would take root.
The school year is a fresh start for every child. Through the Back to School Bash, we have the privilege of helping students take that first step with confidence, comfort, and the hope of the Gospel.
