Hey! Do you know what part of leading this ministry brings me the most joy? It is hearing all of the amazing stories of transformation. Today I have the pleasure of sharing another awesome story with you. I hope you enjoy it.
The mountain path to school had become Sofia’s daily challenge. At just eight years old, she navigated the steep, rocky trails outside her small Guatemalan village with determination despite her crumbling footwear. Her shoes—if you could still call them that—were merely fragments held together by colorful string, a creative solution from a resourceful child with no alternatives.
Each morning, Sofia would leave before sunrise, allowing extra time for the inevitable stops to retie her makeshift repairs. During rainy season, the mud would seep between her toes, and sometimes the string would simply give way, leaving her to walk barefoot on sharp stones or through puddles that harbored parasites.
Despite these challenges, Sofia rarely complained. Her teacher described her as their most dedicated student—bright, curious, and always eager to learn, even when she arrived with mud-caked feet and damp clothes.
When I met Sofia during my recent visit, she stood quietly in line, eyes downcast. As new sturdy shoes were placed upon her tiny feet, something changed. She looked up, tears welling in her eyes, and whispered, “Now I won’t have to stop to fix my shoes anymore.” Then, something magical happened—she took a few experimental steps, then broke into a spontaneous little dance, testing the security of shoes that wouldn’t fall apart.
Later, her grandmother explained that Sofia had missed nearly two weeks of school last month when the rains made her journey impossible in her broken shoes. “She cried every morning she couldn’t go,” she told me. “These shoes mean education for her.”
Through our “Blessing Little Feet with God’s Love” initiative, Sofia received more than footwear—she received possibility. – story told by Tim Oloffson
It is the constant and reliable support of the ACF donors that allows children to experience the love of God in such a powerful way.
I hope this story helps connect you with the work being done through this ministry via your generosity!
Once again, I want to thank you for being the Voice for Voiceless children. I hope you keep investing into their lives as long as you can. You are such a blessing to them.
